Speedway City Garage is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between two of Indiana's most beloved craft beverage makers — Founders Grounds Coffee Company and Pax Verum Brewing Company. Set inside the lovingly restored former Rosner's Pharmacy building on Main Street in Speedway, Indiana, the Garage is your new favorite gathering place.

Whether you're fueling up for race day with a perfectly pulled espresso or unwinding after the checkered flag with an ice-cold craft IPA, Speedway City Garage exists to honor the rich racing heritage of this community while giving everyone — locals, visitors, and racing legends alike — a welcoming space to gather, relax, and enjoy the best of both worlds.

Born from a love of community and a deep respect for local history, Founders Grounds Coffee Company has been Speedway's heart and soul since opening in 2021 at 1414 N. Main St. Co-owners Jeff & Jen Matthews launched the shop with one vision: to give Speedway residents, racing fans, and worldwide visitors a coffee experience as unique as the town itself.

The name pays direct homage to the four founders of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Even their signature coffee — the Racing Blend — traces its roots back to Rex Coffee, originally created by Herman Hulman in the 1800s. Voted Indy's Best Coffee Shop just seven months after opening, Founders Grounds is more than a café — it's a community landmark.

Out past the ordinary lies a place called Pax Verum. Latin for "True Peace," Pax Verum Brewing Company is a destination brewery born in Lapel, Indiana in early 2018 — a place that's less a brewery and more a feeling. An escape from reality. A community of people who take their beer seriously and their attitude lightly.

Known for otherworldly lagers, luminous hazy IPAs, and bold West Coast brews, Pax Verum is home to the beloved Speedway City IPA — an Indianapolis 500-inspired beer that was practically made for its new home on Main Street. The Lapel taproom (908 Main St) will continue to operate, giving fans two incredible ways to experience the brand.

What exactly is Speedway City Garage?
Speedway City Garage is a collaborative café and taproom bringing together Founders Grounds Coffee Company and Pax Verum Brewing Company under one 4,000 sq ft roof on Speedway's Main Street. Come for the coffee, stay for the beer, leave with a story.
Is the original Founders Grounds still open?
The original Founders Grounds location at 1414 N. Main St. transitioned to Speedway City Garage at the new, larger 1552 Main St. location.
Is the Pax Verum Lapel taproom still operating?
Absolutely. The original Pax Verum taproom at 908 Main St in Lapel, Indiana continues to operate with its full hours. Speedway City Garage is a second home for the brand — not a replacement.
What is the "Racing Blend" coffee?
The Racing Blend has deep roots in Indy racing history. Co-owner Jeff Matthews tracked down the original recipe for Rex Coffee — a brand created by Herman Hulman in the late 1800s, whose family later saved the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The result is a medium-dark roast that's smooth, low in acidity, and made for every kind of coffee drinker.
Do you have non-alcoholic options?
Of course! The full Founders Grounds coffee bar is on-site, serving espresso drinks, cold brew, teas, seasonal specials and food from open to close — no drinking required to have a great time at the Garage.
Can I buy beer to go?
Not At This Time. We don't have a carry out license yet, but are in the DORA district.
